The regular tobacco pipe used to be the standard smoking device but is almost forgotten nowadays. No matter what material they are made from or what their design is, the technique is always the same. You put the tobacco into a more or less big bowl at the front end of the pipe, you ignite that mix and inhale at the mouthpiece.

Raw Materials for Tobacco Pipes

Classic tobacco pipes are made from a range of different materials. The most common probably are:

• clay pipes
• Meerschaum pipes
• corn cob pipes
• Bruyère
• soapstone pipes
• oriental waterpipes/hookahs – just for the sake of completeness.

Apart from that there are some pipes made from unusual and rather rare materials. Most inexpensive pipes simply are from wood, glass, or metal, such as one-hitters, bats, chillums, dugouts, and so on.

Hand held Pipes, screwable

They are great for traveling around since they come apart and don't need much room. Also, they are easy to clean and their use is simple. Mostly they are of metal, sometimes of wood. As a disguise, there are some pipes designed to look for example like a large screw or a ball pen.

Electric Pipes

Now, that's pure decadence. You don't even need to take a drag any more, these battery powered pipes have a small ventilator that blows the smoke right into your mouth. Just inhale.
